\nNise da Silveira, a pioneer in Brazil in the therapeutic use of expressive activities, developed a method of reading images for the study of the human psyche where interdisciplinarity stands out.
\nThe dissemination of this method contributes to the theoretical foundation of the use of expressive activities in the treatment of individuals with mental disorders, which today is done, in many cases, empirically and without an epistemologically consistent tool.
\nBeyond the sphere of therapeutic treatment, the subject is of interest to scholars who want a greater understanding of the internal world, the psyche and its deep processes.
\nIn a society overwhelmed by images, the study of the creation and symbolism of images increases in importance.
\nIn addition, the stimulus to free expression and the exercise of creativity as part of being in the world is linked to the concept of mental health as a state of balance between the being, society and the environment.
\nThus, the Society of Friends of the Museum of Images of the Unconscious and the Research Group on Memory, Museums and Heritage (Ibram\/CNPq) will hold the VI Seminar on Image Reading \u2013 The epistemology of Nise da Silveira, bringing together researchers from various fields of study \u2013 psychology, psychiatry, art history, museology. <\/p>\n
The seminar is part of the program to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Society of Friends of the Museum of Images of the Unconscious, founded in 1974 by Nise da Silveira and collaborators.
\nThe Museum currently brings together the largest collection of its kind in the world, with about 400 thousand works, 128 thousand of which are listed by IPHAN, and is a national reference in the field of mental health. <\/p>\n
Among the guests, the international participation of Carlos Mele, a researcher at the C. G. Jung Institute in Zurich, responsible for the collection of works by the Swiss master’s patients, stands out.<\/p>\n
WHO WILL BE BENEDITO? The dynamics of the VI Seminar Reading of Images \u2013 The epistemology of Nise da Silveira has as its script the texts recommended in the small notebook of 56 typewritten pages written by Nise da Silveira in the late 1980s, with the title “Small Binder Relating to Works on Plastic Expression of Psychotics and Some Tips for Benedito”.
\nAbout the title, Nise da Silveira explained with a question: “Who will be the Benedito who will be interested in these books?”
\nIn this guide, Dr.
\nNise lists authors and texts that serve as the basis for her method of reading images.
\nThis interdisciplinary method \u2013 which brings together psychology, psychiatry, art history, history of religions, literature \u2013 is pioneering and represents an advanced technology in research into the treatment of people with mental disorders. <\/p>\n
Benedito was published in 2022, on the occasion of the IV Seminar, with the support of the Foundation for Research Support in the State of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ), an edition commented on by researchers who worked directly with Dr.
\nNise da Silveira and have written books about her.
\nThe launch of this unpublished text by Dr.
\nNise was part of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Museum of Images of the Unconscious. <\/p>\n
The Memory, Museums and Heritage Research Group (Ibram\/CNPq) was created to continue this action of dissemination of this pioneering knowledge of great importance for the field of humanities.
\nIt is made up of several professionals \u2013 doctors and masters \u2013 who in their academic objectives seek social development and sustainability as pillars for the broad concept of mental health.
\nIn this way, the Group proposes to bring to light not only the legacy left by Dr.
\nNise, but to expand it and open routes for other knowledge to be generated from there.
\nThe Group has already held five editions of the Image Reading Seminar: in 2017, in Rio de Janeiro; in 2018, in Avar\u00e9, (SP); 2019, in Santos, (SP), 2022 in Rio de Janeiro and 2023 in S\u00e3o Paulo.
